Trends Are Loud. Patterns Tell the Truth.

After enough years in marketing, you start to notice something: most trends are just old human behaviors wearing a new outfit.

The outfit might be an AI agent, a TikTok Shop, or a new expert explaining the same old funnel with a ring light strong enough to interrogate a suspect. But underneath it all? People still hate being sold to badly. They still buy from brands they trust.

Marketing loves novelty because novelty sells. But most of what actually works comes down to very stubborn patterns, and the data proves it.

The Stubborn Patterns of Marketing

  • Trust is an Economic Moat: The 2026 Edelman Trust Barometer revealed a world retreating into "insularity"—70% of people globally are unwilling or hesitant to trust strangers. Yet, interestingly, 80% of people now trust the brands they use more than they trust businesses generally, the media, or the government. Trust isn't a soft metric; it’s commercial infrastructure.

  • Relevance Beats Reach: Reach without relevance is just your brand interrupting more people at scale. McKinsey’s latest personalization research shows that 81% of consumers flat-out ignore “irrelevant” marketing messages, and 71% will walk away from a purchase entirely if the experience does not feel relevant in the moment.

  • Attention is Not Persuasion: A post can get likes and do absolutely nothing for the business. Attention opens the door; clarity and proof close the sale.

Do not mistake trend-chasing for strategy. Trends tell you what everyone is doing. Patterns help you see what everyone is missing.
